Anxiety & Autism

What is anxiety in autism?

Autistic people are more likely to experience co-occurring anxiety and mental health presentations than non-autistic people (Lai et al 2019).

Simonoff et al (2008) explored prevalence of mental health in autistic children and young people aged 10-14 and found 70% experienced at least one mental health presentation. This has been supported by additional research with varying statistics but a consensus of over 50% prevalence rates.
